Frequently Asked Questions

Is my child too young, old, quiet, lively, or messy for your nursery?

Not at all! We welcome children aged 6 months to 5 years — and we’ve cared for every kind of personality you can imagine!
Whether your little one is shy, energetic, creative, or curious, our team knows exactly how to nurture their individual spark. Every child has a place at Little Luminaries.

What if my child’s a picky eater?

We completely understand — and you’re not alone! Many of our children start out picky but soon find meals they love.
Our on-site chef prepares healthy, balanced dishes with familiar flavours and fun presentations. We always offer simple alternative options to make sure every tummy is happy.
You can read more about our meals, allergy information, and menus on our ‘Nutrition & Wellbeing’ page.

How qualified are your staff?

Think of our team as a mix between Super Nanny and Bluey, with a sprinkle of Einstein!
All our staff hold relevant childcare qualifications, enhanced DBS checks, paediatric first aid, and safeguarding training.
At Little Luminaries, we’re proud to have:

  • Experienced Nursery Management and Qualified Early Years Teachers

  • Speech & Language Therapist (SEND Support)

  • Chefs & Nutrition Assistants

  • Languages and Music Teachers

  • Sports Coach and Creative Arts Practitioners

  • Occasional student placements for work experience (always supervised)

We’re not just caregivers — we’re nurturers, educators, and motivators.
What makes Little Luminaries Day Care different from other nurseries?
So glad you asked — everything! ✨
We pride ourselves on being a home-from-home for children and a supportive hub for families.
Our flexibility and open communication are what parents love most.
💛 We go beyond the EYFS curriculum — our programme includes STEM, cooking, music, languages, emotional wellbeing, and early life skills like teamwork and independence.
💛 We actively support SEND children, with tailored strategies and one-to-one support where needed.
💛 We even offer unbilled well-being days, because we understand that sometimes families need a little breathing space.
We’re not just childcare — we’re your partner in your child’s growth and happiness.

Do you offer temporary or flexible spaces?

Yes, we do! We understand that family life and work commitments can change, so we offer short-term and flexible placements where space allows.
If you need care for a few weeks or months, just reach out — we’ll do our best to accommodate your schedule.

What does settling in look like at Little Luminaries?

Every child (and parent!) settles in differently — and that’s completely okay.
We offer a gentle, flexible settling-in process that allows children to adjust gradually.
👶 The first day is one hour and completely free, giving your child a chance to explore and meet their key worker.
After that, we’ll tailor the schedule based on your child’s confidence and comfort level.
We’ll communicate openly with you throughout — because sometimes it’s harder for parents than it is for the little ones!

How many weeks per year are you open? Do you have a minimum attendance requirement?

We’re open 49 weeks a year, from 6:30am to 7:30pm, seven days a week.
We close for approximately two weeks over Christmas and one week in late August for maintenance and staff training.
Our minimum attendance requirement is:

  • During settling-in: 2 half days per week

  • Once settled: 2 full days or 3 half days minimum

We offer both term-time and all-year-round spaces.
Please note that government funding does not cover half-term breaks.

Do you cater for SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities)?

Absolutely. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.
Our SEND Coordinator (SENCO) works closely with families and outside professionals to create individual learning and care plans for each child.
We use tailored communication methods (visuals, symbols, Makaton, and sensory supports) to ensure every child can learn, express, and thrive.
No matter their needs — verbal, non-verbal, or in between — your child is safe, supported, and celebrated here.

Do you provide meals and snacks?

Yes! We provide freshly prepared, healthy meals and snacks throughout the day.
Parents can view our rotating seasonal menus, and we cater for allergies, dietary needs, and cultural preferences.

  • Breakfast (optional add-on)

  • Mid-morning snack

  • Lunch (hot meal)

  • Afternoon snack & tea

All meals are cooked on-site with love.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes — we love families!
We offer a 15% discount for siblings attending together.
Ask our admin team about applying your sibling discount during registration.
